Letter: "Cousin Sue" to Anna Parker Wetherald, June 15, 1872

Huntingdon, June 5. 1872.

Dear Cousin Anna.

I write to tell you that our beloved Mother passed quietly away at 20. min. past 2. this P.M. she has been failing very rapidly since Sunday morning, but without any conscious suffering except from the fatigue & soreness of lying in one position; she seemed comfortable only on her left side; On Monday she was alternately restless, and drowsy, till into the middle of the night. Sister Mary & I were sitting up with her, she strangled, & choked very much from the accumulation of mucus in her chest & throat I think that exhausted her very much for she soon lost her consciousness and never was fully con

conscious afterwards, though she asked for a drink occassionally and knew us, till about 4 o clk yesterday afternoon when she slept quietly till the hour she passed away. breathing more & more slowly, & quietly, till at last she opened her eyes wide, as if she had a glorious view, a lovely expression passed over her face it grew instantly white, and her spirit had gone from her dear body. She looks so placid, and lovely, as if all trouble & pain had truly gone forever - It has been a beautiful close to her good active life, and we give thanks that our dear Lord has been so gracious, has permitted us all to be together and [illegible] day & night to [every?] [illegible].

The funeral will be on 7th day afternoon at 2.30. to meet at Friends Meeting House & from there to

[illegible], where the body will be buried: - We hope some of you can come down.
