what has happened. After many days of heat we
arrived here, about six. We are high in the
Ozark Mountains. This is a very modern hotel. I
have a lovely big room and the most up-to-date
bath room. Robert said in his long experience of
hotels he had never seen an electric fan in the
bath room. This desk by the window is fitted
up with every thing. Out this window by me
facing East is the Moon. Just now
a long express train ran by - and the air!!!
it is so cool and bracing. We feel almost as tho'
we were in another country. : in the pincushion
on the bureau - are two needles. one threaded with
white cotton and one with balck. one white button
& one black and a thimble ever hear of such a
thing? I had never heard of this town of Rolla.
Our ride from Columbia, thro' Jefferson City was very
beautiful. With views of far away hills. We left
St Louis at 8.20 . this a.m. at Columbia. We found
Mrs. Smith and the girls. went to lunch. and
packed into the two cars and were off. Our
trip today was I think 275 or 95. I dont know which.
I had the loveliest visit to Mr. and Mrs. Hill. Theirs
is a beautiful family intercourse. Just one thing -
I will mention, we went to the table & every one stood
and Mr. Hill's three daughters, with their arms around him.
