1903 Friday 20 Feby Saturday 21 Feby

Busy with orders for goods per Gazelle to Komuli Got note from the Judge that the three boys were at Herbertshohe and had complained to him of ill treatment and asking for an explanation. Sent back word that I would be over at Herbertshohe and see him personally on Monday morning

Cormoran Man of War arrived at Herbertshohe

Sunday 22 Feby

Got sailing boat from Ah Tam and with it in tow got underweigh with strong NWest winds and proceded to Herbertshohe, arriving there 2:30 with when the wind came off the land with heavy rain

3:30 P.M. when the rain had cleared off sent Comat to Caparatawa with a letter to Mr Wolff notifying him that I had a parcel of money for him from Messr Hernshein & Co and asking him to come down in the morning.

Herbertshohe

1903 Monday 23 Feby

Steady rain nearly all night. 8:30 went on shore and met Mr Wolff & gave him the parcel of cash from Messrs Hernsheim & Co.

Also saw the Judge and explained about the boys. Found the three runaway boys had been sent to Pakuratawa and were with M Wolff also that he had the other small boy that had gone away 10. A.M. Got underweigh and towed out with the boat. Very light southerly air

Afternoon light breeze from the North led over Towards Reauch Bay and anchored under the land to North of North Daughlin

Tuesday 24 Feby

3 A M Got underweigh with light westerly breeze and [...] over towards New [Laumburg?] Wind uncertain during the early morning but came in with strong squall from the SE during the middle of forenoon [...] into the passage at Makada and left boat with Tabua. then worked up Mioko round the South end of the group

[...] in to Mioko harbour through the East entrance and anchored off the Station.

1903 Wednesday 25 Feby

At anchor Mioko Tabua came round with the boat gave him trade and sent him off recruiting Gave Talua permission to go onshore and he went off with Tabua.

Thursday 26 July At anchor. Busy getting returns ready for the mail Boys chaining up vessel scrubbing paint work etc

Friday 27 Feb Talua back in the morning 4 Recruits [...] with heavy cold too ill to take his turn onshore. Sent over order to Herbertshohe to have the Stettin mail sent to Mioka.

Saturday 28 Feby At anchor Mioko No sign of the Stettin having passed as yet. I was waiting on small Island near with the boat.

20 Log of Canomie Meoko to Herbertshohe

1903 Sunday 1 March

Midday the Meoko Cutter came back from Herbertshohe and brought word that the Stettin had arrived last Thursday & that my letters had gone on to Matupi. Arranged with Tabua to keep the boat for a few days and then bring her over to Matupi. Got underweigh [sic] and stood over to Hebertshohe and anchored. Stettin still there, but hearing that she was leaving same night arranged with Takida who was on board of her to look out for some divers at Singapore and if possible send two back with the Stettin.

Monday 2 March When the wind came in got underweigh and went over to Matupi. Found that the mail had been sent over to Herbertshohe.

Tuesday 3 March Sent boys away early to Herbertshohe with the boat and they returned about noon with the mail.

Wednesday 4 March to Friday 6 March Anchor Matupe Gilling returns ready for the [...]

Matupi

1903 Saturday & Sunday 7 & 8 March Writing letters for Vaughn and getting returns finished. Mail closed Sunday evening posted all letters then Self ill with slight attack of fever

Monday 9 March Vaughn left for Herbertshöhe 9 a.m. Self laid up with fever Remained at anchor

Tuesday & Wednesday 10 & 11 March Laid up with fever and sore eyes Arranged with Henry Martin to go to Komule with the Gazelle. Capt. Griffith to find him work until I get there at about £6 per month.

Thursday 12 March Very unwell. Chartered Ah Tams steamer launch to tow the Canomie over to Herbertshöhe so that I could see the Doctor and got Martin to come and take the vessel over. The Gazelle followed to Herbertshöhe in the afternoon.

Friday 13 March Put letters for Capt. Griffith on board the Gazelle and three boys. Gazelle left for Matupi at noon.
