1903 Friday 2d Jany
Forenoon commenced with light showers : 5 Carpenters started work Heavy rain about mid.day Willie Fiji came over from Matupi with letter from Mr Thul When rain cleared off about 36 M self went over to Matupi to see about the recruits. Arranged that Dunphy take them over to Herbertshohe in the Chloe to be signed on by Mr Wolff on Monday both Luggers going over to Karawia in the morning after taking in 2 weeks stores and some things that are required for the slip. Went back to Karawia again in the evening.

1903 Saturday 3 Jany
Showering part of the day. All carpenters at work caulking bottom.
Sarkis came in from Matupi and during the afternoon the divers got everything on shore ready to sink the vessel to get rid of the vermin. Afternoon Chloe came over.
Sunday 4 Jany
Mostly fine. Carpenters at work after 10 a.m.
Sarkis sunk at low water in the morning and 10 am Dunphy sailed for Herbertshohe in the Chloe with the 14 recruits obtained about Nusa to get them signed on and and the vessel measured Sent Taloa with the Sarkis and letter for Mr Wolff to go on shore at Malapou and walk to Paparatava from there.

4 Log of Canomie On the Slip Karawia [margin] 1903 Monday 5 Jany. Forenoon fine Set Fernandes with boys cleaning Canomie Cabin. Tchumu making new sail for Canomie and Seperie painting dinghy. Afternoon fine Men at work as in the early part of the day. Devers & Jack trying to get the Saikis upright but without success. One carpenter laid up with fever and another from Hernsheim &Co took his place from 9. A.M (5 in all) Ah Cow got a crew to go over to Matupi 4 P.M. [margin] Tuesday 6 Jany. 6 Carpenter at work and 3 Boys. A little rain during the night but day fine Devers made the Haletus tight with Tarpaulin and got the Saikis bailed out 2 Matupi boys putting putty in the nail holes. A[sic=Ah] Cow knocked off from the Canomie to work for Ah Tam. Mid day the Chloe returned from Herbertshohe having signed on the 14 boys all night and got the Chloe measured for 28 recruits Willee Fiji returned with 3 recruits. Sent them over to Matupi with him and Dunphy where they made agreement in presense of [?Nun] H&Co Mr Wolff got 7 of the newly signed on boys at Herbertshohe vis Kinmaras No 1987 - Lomon 1989 Tiwitipang 1990 - Tiwisek 1991 - Temerkopub 1994 Saro 1995 Sanfinisch 1997

1903 Wednesday 7 Jany
Fine and Clear Six carpenters at work Afternoon fine. Carpenters and men at work all day. Got note from Mr Thiel saying that the Gazelle was in and received letters from the Admiralties. All well there.
Thursday 8 Jany
Sent Dunphy to Herbertshohe in the morning with the Saikio to be measured taking the 3 NB. boys with him for safety. Six carpenters at work. two of them being on the Chloe caulking decks. 9.30 A.M self went over to Matupi in the boat with four boys to see about the Gazelles future sailings. Found that she leaves next Monday night. on short trip to Komuli. Making a full trip to the Hermits etc again in Feby. Thunder Storm with heavy rain from 11.30 A.M to 4 P.M Returned to Karawia in the evening and found that the Carpenters had been off work from 12 noon to 3.30

1903 Friday 9 Jany
Weather Fine 6 Carpenters, two of them on the Chloe, at work Willie Fiji came back at noon with 4 boys which he said were going to recruit Afternoon fine. all hands at work at Canomie scrubing & painting boats etc.
Saturday 10 Jany
Found that Dunphy had arrived during the night having had the Saikio measured Total number of recruits allowed 35 Noticed that in the certificate the Government had spelled the vessels name wrongly vis Saiggio instead of Saikio Went over to Matupi and ordered goods for Komuli by the Gazelle. Took over Willie Fiji with the 7 New Britain recruits and had them examined and passed by Dr Wentland who was here in the Afternoon all the papers made out ready for handing in to the Government. Came back to Karawia in the evening and arranged that Dunphy take the recruits to Herbertshohe tomorrow in the Saikio The six Carpenters at work all day. Selow at work on Canomie today and yesterday
