Malaita to Manning Strait
[margin] 1905 Monday 13 November.
Moderate breeze well from the South East during
the day
9 AM Mount "Noble" on Ysabel abeam &
3 P.M Nairn Island
6 P.M Haycock in sight lowered down
mainsail and hove to under mizen & headsail
9 P.M drifting over shallow ground with 4 fathoms
let go anchor

3 A.M Wind keeping up from about SSE
short choppy sea when the tide turned to windward
Got underweigh 3 A.M and stood in towards
Haycock under short sail until daylight
Anchored in passage about 8.30 AM found high
ground swell coming in from the North with heavy surf
on the reefs
Found all well at "Salaro" & Frank here with the Yawl
Landed 10 of the New recruits "Allyman" "Moala"
Toaram "Makoy" "Kambina" "Rua ca lua"
"Dowgale" "Wytara" Lamalagalamu" & Wiligala as
head boy to look after the store work. but not to interupt
with "Lemon" who will attend more particularly to the
turtling and fishing
Afternoon shifted along the coast a little to the
Westward of the passage so as to get out of the tide
anchoring a good distance from the store[sic=shore] in 10 fathoms
