J. & I understand one another now - have discussed the marriage question most mutually - he doesn't believe he'll ever marry - doesn't want to - so I said the same - we felt more at home with each other after that - strange that a young man should have those ideas - there must be something wanting in us both - I read his bumps - he 'is'[underlined] lacking in conjugality but large in Friendship - I think he would be a true friend but all the same I wouldn't like to marry Jack - We had a lovely ride together after 6 - came This night last year had a ride with Dave.[last sentence inserted here] back at 8 - Laddie went splendidly & it was so cool - we had a good old confab again - I told him the real facts of my case - his opinion was - "Don't marry for anything else but love else you wont be happy - I'm not". It's very nice at New Farm - lovely places there - awfully hot coming back - have perspired enough these two days - feel weak rather - after my fever Dr. G. says the the coquaine might have that effect on me - H. came tonight & we had some music - he comes round to say Good bye tomorrow Feel tight these 2 days & horrid cough. 6th. Friday. Rested all morning - Dreadfully hot last night - it changed tho' towards morning & started to rain & is quite cold today. Made up a party & went to One Tree Hill. The bus only took us to Toowong & we had to walk the rest of the way - thought it would never come to an end - hill after hill - I had been shortwinded all day & couldn't manage the last one - had to sit down & wait till they came back & brought me some tea - It was lovely there - & such a view - & cold! I had to keep a cloak on - Felt lot better when we got home - it did me good the pure air up there - H. came for tea - we sat out on the verandah till 8.30. 7th. Saturday. Left at 7.30 this morning by Toowoomba train - the views going up the range are lovely - like a panorama - the train twists in & out like a snake - the line is horse-shoe shape mostly - 8 tunnels going along. Reached T. at 12.30 - had to wait till 2 for the R. train. & reached there at 5 - such a slow old train - the country looks very dry here. They were there to meet us. It's quite on the Downs. dry & healthy. Amy Lagar is staying here too - so I'll have company. 8th. Sunday. Quite cool here last night - slept well - Went with Mr. Brassington to a service in a farmer's house 5 miles off - M. Amy S. & I. It was a nice drive but the country is very dry. It must be very pretty when there's rain - wheat - fields in all directions - dry now but straw stacks everywhere - bright yellow - looks so pretty - like the pictures one sees. The air here is lovely - dry - After dinner went out to 3 o'clock service - they don't have any morning service here - afternoon & night. Didn't go out at night - stayed by myself - It's like old times being here. 9th. Monday. Out for a drive this afternoon. Mrs. B. took us . Mr. B. has gone into Toowoomba till to morrow. Feel very free in my breathing here but cough a lot yet. Amy S. seems a nice girl - One farmer & his wife were here for dinner. They come from near one of Tyson's stations - live close to a 30 mile plain. Are going away or we might have seen it 10th. Tuesday. Another drive this afternoon - very nice - saw a small plain. straw-stacks in all directions - One can imagine what this place would be after rain - there's been none for nearly 12 months - Mr. B came home - We had a party tonight Mr. & Miss Evans from next door - she's a fine big girl - he - is a teacher at Mackay - plays the violin - not badly - but his sister is a fearful player - I nearly died over a duet they played ~ another gent. came - & Miss Garget - daughter of the postmaster - & her young brother - she sings - leads the choir - her brother & another sing too - a musical family - We had a nice jolly evening - had galvanic shocks too - I forgot my music so had to play just what I remembered - young Evans was charmed with Mocking Bird - wanted me to play it over again - he seemed[underlined] to be quite struck with me - wants me to stay till Monday & go back with him Feel so terribly sleepy since I came here - suppose it's the air - it must be doing me good - hate to lie down every day & sleep - Felt lively tonight though.
