fix things up at the shed = they had it decorated up for the tea.
After tea went down to practise with Miss Davidson -
J. there making himself generally useful - Didn't see much
of him tho' May & Annie opened with the duet & played it well.
I had all the rest of the playing to do - except 1 or 2 things.
Felt quite knocked up - il me laisse après en allant
chez nous - peüt être il croits que je l'aime trop -
10th. Saturday. Mrs B. & Mr. went home early this morning
with Mr. G. he goes to Pialba .. so we'll have a lovely time till Monday. J. went down too so we are left once more -
A.W. sent word he wouldn't be coming up till very late -
so we retired. Wrote to Jim S. & H. this week. Dear
Papa's birthday - would have been 78 had he lived.
Added up marks this morning. feel out of sorts
11th. Sunday. Very hot - We went to church - J. went not -
Lazy thing - have come to the conclusion that he's such
However - I tormented him some this afternoon - believe he
thinks I'm going too far - silly thing - Went for a walk
with me & the girls after tea - seemed all right then & stayed
avec moi tout le soir au église. Florrie Workman came
up on Friday & stays till Tuesday morning. Guess she'll have
a tale to tell - Old Mr. Willes came up with Mr. Ellison this afternoon
12th. Monday. Holiday - just gave May her lesson - We had
it all nicely arranged to go to town for a drive & meet Mr. G. &
come back about 11 tonight but lo! our little plans were squashed
Mr. G. sent up word he was coming by train this afternoon -
& A. W. & his Pa had to go down by the cane-train at 2 -
However we comforted each other as best we could - J. M. & I -
We were having a gay time to ourselves on the verandah when
the Franklins came. J. & I understand one another now - have
discussed the marriage question most mutually - he doesn't
believe he'll ever marry - doesn't want to - so I said the same -
we felt more at home with each other after that - strange
that a young man should have those ideas - there must be
something wanting in us both - I read his bumps - he 'is'[underlined]
lacking in conjugality but large in Friendship - I think he
would be a true friend but all the same I wouldn't like to
marry Jack - We had a lovely ride together after 6 - came This night last year had a ride with Dave.[last sentence inserted here]
back at 8 - Laddie went splendidly & it was so cool - we had
a good old confab again - I told him the real facts of my
case - his opinion was - "Don't marry for anything else but love
else you wont be happy - I'm not". He gave me his photo tonight
13th. Tuesday. School. Feel very lazy - hot day - had a good yarn night
14th. Wednesday. We two left alone again today - Mr. G. & M. in
town - We went for a walk down to the river - after tea - then
I got J. to help me add the marks & then we adjourned to
the verandah & talked - till after 10 - We understand each
other thoroughly now & I'm very glad - thinks he'll be
going to Brisbane before or just after Xmas so I asked him to
come & see me - at Preston's - he seemed pleased at the thought.
15th. Thursday. Very hot day - hot now - got J. to write in
the prizes - storm came on - or threatened dreadfully - about
1/2-5 - didn't come to much after all - J. must have got huffed
because I didn't come out to talk to him after tea - was talking
to Mr. G. didn't see anything of him all evening - first time
he's done that - he's a huffy article -
