like he'll take the children for an hour or two in the mornings till I
get better - he means it too - don't know what the mothers will say
W. came in to-night to see me - with M. & Mr. G. again - felt quite taken
aback - they are very kind -
9th. Saturday. Up good bit to-day - spent time in the drawing room
blowing all day so I couldn't stir out - even to take a mouthful of
air - Mrs. John came to see me this afternoon - & seemed to quite take
up the idea of Dr. W. teaching the children - also about my going to
Watana - said if all was right there I had better go on Tuesday & come
back Sat. but M. says Mrs. W. might go up to[sic] & we could stay till
Monday - Miss S. is to go with me - Mrs. Payne & Mrs Britten the W.C.T.U.

others had gone to church - said he waited till the "sky pilots" were
off - he & I had a great old talk - he's real sensible - said the 2 [...] species
would never convert him - I told him what Mrs. J. had said & he
said he'd do it with pleasure - I thanked him - said he's do it only for
me - he'd do anything for anyone he liked & he always liked me from
the first - so that's a feather in my cap - he's an odd man - but[underlined] a true
friend I believe - says a woman can do anything with him - one of the
right sort - what a pity his life has been such a wasted one - he comes
from one of the best families in Scotland - No service tonight - Mrs. B.

with me to Watana tomorrow - Katie instead & Elsie - Martin's have
a big party & want Miss S. togo[sic] - suppose I must make the best of it but
would rather some grown person were with me -
