A. & W. wished me to ride her as being better than Laddie but I knew
I wouldn't enjoy it no more I did & F's saddle was quick too seemed
for me consequently I suffered much on one side - otherwise didn't
feel bad at all - don't know how I'm to get back tomorrow - It's
lovely up there. - feel better already - ride did me good too in spite
19th. Saturday. Feel not very lively - we had a lovely ride in the truck
up the plantation & then walked to church - 7 of us - wonder when
the same lot will meet again - Arthur G. is going back to Germany
soon. Last night Miss S & I slept in the same room - she offered to
ride part of the way home for me if I liked so nothing loth I said alright
so she started off about 2 - we left at 10 past 4 - expecting to catch
them up any minute I put on my riding things - but lo : we saw
them nowhere they reached home before we did - Miss S. had gone
to church - the drive down was lovely - I wondered how ever I was
going to ride - blessing I didn't have to - she said she[underlined] felt bad but
she couldn't have been to ride all that way like that. Had a lovely
time - it is a pretty place - I feel all the better for it. Il [...] ma [3 illegible words]
20th. Monday. Feel so nice to-day - Miss S. was down today & said she
doesn't feel stiff in the least - that's a fib I'm sure - & that Pippie was
every bit as nice as the grey - that's another - & the saddle fitted her exactly maybe
Wrote to Ma. Got letter from Art - such a nice letter - just like his old
self. he feels much better he says & will return to T. probably about the
26th. That letter made me feel happy all evening. We had a carpet
dance in honour of Miss Norman - Gibson's over & Miss N. Mrs. Shirley &
Jean - Wildes & a gentleman visitor & Mr. Muller - Norman Menzies - we
had such a nice time - everyone enjoyed it - I'm sure I haven't enjoyed
anything so much for a long while - danced the Lancers with W.
Mr. & the visitor reading my hand said I'd been crossed in love twice - not far wrong
21st. Tuesday. Dull oppressive day. Went over to Mr. James this
evening to say Goodbye to Miss Norman - she's going tomorrow - we'll
miss her - stale & flat as a pancake - noone seemed to have any life - such
a contrast to last night - blame the weather - was glad when it was over
22nd. Wednesday. Hot today - feel my old enemy these two days - don't know why.
29[sic]th. Thursday. I & the girls were going out for a ride this afternoon but storm
came on.
23rd. Friday. Storm this evening - pretty sharp - another this
afternoon - our ride doomed again. Letter from Edie - dear old girlie - they miss Ma
24th. Saturday. Lessons. lovely day - cool & clear - Kate & Tom & I went for a ride
this afternoon - I rode Laddie for the first time - he goes well - a bit rough but
a very easy walk & trot. Went up to Wilde's at night & enjoyed myself - always
feel better after a ride.
26th. Sunday. Church twice - Wilde's - Mr. G. their visitor - & ~~~ Mr. Muller
were here for tea - & - Arthur Wilis - Mr. M. sat beside me at tea & we had
a good time. he went to church too ~ think he likes me -
27th. Monday. Feel horribly out of sorts ~ got up this morning with a big
headache. hardly any sleep last night - Mr. G. preached last night -
a long sermon - & it mustn't have agreed with me. Glad it was an easy
day - felt miserable all day & worst of all - my enemy all the time -
never felt it before in the day time
28th. Tuesday. Horrible day for wind - it blew a gale & towards night got
worse - I felt bad all day - can't eat either - Wrote to Ma
29th. Wednesday. Feel not nice to-day either - head aches again - M. in
town - getting her to get blouse for me - Miss Beatson here is going to make me a dress - white silk alpaca
