1878 ................... Pr

......... Last day of the month ... 30th
Nov. ... Sunday ... Mr Gerler spoke very nicely
from "Abide with us" ... What an excit-
ing day for Mrs Gerler and family, ex-
pecting Mrs Morton and children
every hour. Strange that I should
envy the mutual thril[l] of pleas-
sure of such loving hearts after
so long an absense; pleasure mix-
ed with the tenderest sympathy deepened
[crossed out] (der) by the sorrowful circumstances
resulting in her return to her
parents. How cheering it is in this
life to be near those of kindred
[added above] (spirit) and congenial tastes. How deso-
late when not so ... My inner life is
not known or understood. When, O
when will the end come! It will
come I trust "kindly and good,
with healing in its wings"
To me, even to me!

Dec 8th ... Just returned from Church ...
Mr Gerler spoke of the advantage of re-
tiring from the world for meditation
and communion with God. In deep
dejection arising ^ [added above] (from) disappointments
where my aims and hopes aspired
to no unreasonable but ligettable [legitimate?]
expectation ... I have thought perhaps my
sad experience may be an educati-
on for a useful life in another state
and thought the idea original
but discovered that the same thought
had occurred to others.
