[centred] Pr ................................ 1878

Oct 6th ... Returned from visiting Mrs Hows [Haws?] ...
spent a very pleasant week with her ...
Piety is the daily habit of their lives ...
no discordant jars ... father, mother, and
daughter of one head and mind. Miss H.
made a very sensible remark and one I
fully endorsed in reference to some punish-
ment being given to brutal husbands
viz that reformation in wives was as
much needed as in husbands, so ma-
ny making their homes most misera-
ble. Mr Hows took us to Nudgee to the
Sands ... Saw the orphans running about
apparently enjoying themselves, one of
the priests were with them ... Dr O'Quin I
think ... We called on Mr Mrs Childs.
I am very glad I saw Mrs Rode ... she is
really kind as usual ... I feared and
thought my attachment was not re-
ciprocated ... this hateful feeling is
removed ... She has trials but to a
great extent casts her care on one
who is able to sustain. I felt a-
fraid of hearing something un-
pleasant ... I do try to check these
foreboding cares; they are sometimes
groundless
