Sunday 24th ... Been reading Dr
Chalmer's strong healthy mind by
nature and highest culture and
surroundings all in harmony. ...
How insignificant I feel, born un-
der sorrowful influences suffering
acutely as a child from a too sensiti-
tive nature, weighted by that,
that shadowed my [crossed out] (child) girl-
hood and after years, my trials
have been peculiar ... Few have shed
more tears. But I had my bless-
ings, the greatest my dear good hus-
band. Our courtship was a very
pleasant one. My widow-
hood, lonely and so harrassed [sic]
through the intemperance and
other griefs that I am now in a
sad state ... and dread becoming
worse. All my life I may say have
seen the beauty and excellence of
religion. Now that I am brought
very low leave me not neither for-
sake me O, God of my help.
I am better in the evening and I sleep
well
Edward and Charlotte very kind
