Ipswich 4th. June 1851.

Sir,

In terms of the intimation made by Her Majestys [sic] Attorney General, when at Brisbane lately, that a memorial from the Inhabitants of Ipswich, praying for the appointment of a Police Magistrate transmitted to the Government by the member of Council, for the District, would be favorably received

I have the honor to transmit to You, the enclosed Memorial, signed by almost all the Resident Householders and Heads of Families of this Town, and I am instructed to request, that you will be good enough, not only to forward the same to the proper quarter, but to add, your influence to it, in obtaining the object of its Prayer.

You will observe, that the paragraph, which ends thus “there being but one Magistrate “resident in the Town, who is also engaged in "private practice" formerly ran differently - It stood thus “there being no Magistrate resident in the "Town in whom Your Memorialists have the "slightest confidence" The memorial contained this latter clause, up to the obtaining of the fiftieth signature, when, its appearing, that several individuals who were desirous of signing,
