and being appealed to at the
time from the occurrence of
similar outages to those I
am now writing about had
to seek the officers in charge
and request them to visit the
stations at which murders
had been committed _ and in
one instance met with a refusal
on account of previous orders.
I confess this is not a position
in which I would willingly
place myself a second time but
the Settlers naturally appeal
to me for the protection of
the Government and I have no
course left open but that of
interesting myself in their behalf
with the best means at my
disposal.
I intend tomorrow to take
with me the Chief & another Constable
from Gayndah and proceed to
Moudur where the outrages seem
to be most serious (a party of
gentlemen having already gone
in pursuit of the murderers of
Mr Wilkins servants) but I can
hardly hope to be able to effect
much good.
