in safety to the Lockup keeper at Warialda, one lad accused of pilfering called the "five boys" who was apprehended and detained in custody for some time was discharged by me for want of sufficient evidence on oath -he however himself told me that he had stolen some flour from a Chinaman. The proper way to deal with such lads, would be give them a good horsewhipping and dismiss them -One black called Lippy accused on oath of a violent assault and robbing two Chinamen, was killed by the Police in an attempt made by him to escape in the dark.
