50/3613 - 9th April 1850. M'm[?] 49 The Colonial Treasurer to the Colonial Secretary respecting the erronous payment of Reward by the Ipswich Bench to the Government.

Res[?]: Branch, Col: Treasury Sydney, 8th April. 1850. Sir, I do myself the honor to inform you that the Bench of Magistrates at Ipswich have represented to me that fine of Two Pounds inflicted on a Lodging House Keeper for allowing gambling take place in his House has been included in the amount of Fees and Fines collected by that Bench during the Quarter ended 31st Dec'r last

In the attested account of the Fines collected by the Clerk of Petty Sessions at Ipswich is credited on 22 December 1849, the Sum of Two pounds, a Fine for gambling imposed on Wm. Bowles 11 April 1850. W.L.

The half of the fine may perhaps be returned as suggested by the Colonial Treasurer. 15th -

1849, but as one half of that amount should have been paid to the Informer, the Bench solicit that the sum of One Pound may be returned to them. £1 2nd. Should it be found on reference to the Auditor General that the amount in question has been paid in the manner pointed out, I would suggest that the same be refunded in accordance with the request the Magistrates at Ipswich. I have the honor to be Sir, Your most obedient Servant Mr Riddich[?] GMP[?]
