Univy of Miss: Oxford Miss June 18th 68

My dear Bishop Immediately upon receipt of your letter I wrote to Gen. Gorgas, requesting him to communicate directly with you. Our opinion of Gen. Gorgas' eminent fitness for this position prompted us to lose no time in communicating with him. I have just received his reply. It will be impossible for him to get relief from his present position before the 1st of January next and will therefore defer visiting Univ. Place for the present. As his service would be required at an early day if not immediately, in the position proffered he feels obliged to decline the position so kindly offered at the same time regretting that he can not enter at once upon duties promising so much of usefulness and honor. Gen G is a an of great courtesy of bearing, winning the affections and esteem of all who may be associated with him - I regret exceedingly that he can not acceptOur Examinations close to morrow - "Comment" opens (over)
