Dear Sir,

Being on a visit to my Mother
of a few days she has called my
attention to the matter of my Fathers,
-Bp Polk- account with the University
of the South. All his vouchers together
with other valuable papers were lost
in the burning of his house in '61.
And therefore it is impossible to get
at the amt due him by the University
with that full degree of accuracy
desirable I have however some
data from which an approximate
Estimate may be ascertained. In a
letter from Col. Barney written after
his return from meeting of Trustees in
1866-he speaks of the amt as $5000.
This being paid him as salary only the
amt due to Oct 1859. From some data
