Germany.

The German nation has been one of the most remarkable nations on earth. It has been foremost in educational advancement and scientific achievement. The great universities of United States were patterned upon the German model.

Germany's contribution to the music of the world has been marvellous. Think of such men as Wagner, Bach, Handel, Beethoven.

In Martin Luther, Germany contributed one of the greatest figures of the Protestant Reformation.

In Goethe, Germany contributed a great writer.

During the war we pictures Germany as a nation of brutes. We allowed ourselves to be worked up in to a frenzy of hatred which was fed by lies circulated for war purposes. The Germans are a peaceful, thrifty people with likeable dispositions. The world has been rules byh force. Might, not right, has been the dominating impulse. Germany took the position, that if was was justified, if it was right to do, then do a thorough job of it. With German thoroughness, they carried war to its logical conclusion. The next world war will probably be far worse than the last one. Let each boy who enters this building resolve that in personal conduct as well as in national thinking he will try to be honest, just, and kindly.

The Rotary Club of Nuremberg, Germany, sent us a stone from one [scratch marks] of their wonderful churches. The spirit of kindly friendliness expressed in this letter is wonderful. Be sure to read it.

[Emblem] ROTARY-CLUB NURNBERG SEKRETARIAT: ZUSAMMENKUNFT: BAHNHOFSTRASSE 1-3 JEDEN DIENSTAG 13 UHR TEL 26441 IM GRANDHOTEL

NURNBERG, DEN 20. Sept.1930. F. Rotary-Club GREENVILLE.

Dear Rotarians: -

You probably will be wondering why we did not yet answer your kind letter of July 17th. Well, here the reason: -

I brought your request to the attention of our Rotarians and they were certainly willing to let you have a piece of stone of one of the famous places of our old attractive town.

Just now we were lucky enought to get such a stone of one of the oldest churches of the mediaeval Nuremberg as per postcards attached. The stone will be forwarded to-morrow and will tell you about our best wishes of friendship from Rotarians to Rotarians, and from our boys to the boys of Southland!

I am, with the best wishes of our Rotary-Club members.

Yours heartily in Rotary [written signature] G. RICHERT Secretary.
