Kings Mountain Battlefield.

The battle of Kings Mountain is familiar to most Southern boys. Here the mountaineers and other loyal colonists rallied and defeated the British and Tories under Colonel Ferguson. The battle cleared North and South Carolina of the British. General Cornwallis retreating from North Carolina after the battle and definitely giving up his idea of the conquest of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The rocks from Kings Mountain were secured for our lodge by Miss Mary Guerry, of Greenville.

OLD MONUMENT OF KINGS MOUNTAIN BATTLEFIELD UNVEILED AT CENTENNIAL OF BATTLE. OCTOBER 7, 1880. THE BATTLE OF KINGS MOUNTAIN WAS FOUGHT OCTOBER 7, 1780, AND WAS THE TURNING POINT OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
