N.C DIVISION

Pictured above are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carpenter Jr. Lynn, left, is seven, and Walter Fred III is four. Mr. Carpenter is relief clerk on the N. C. Division and Mrs. Carpenter does relief work during the summer.

Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Biggerstaff vacationed in New Orleans, La., in March. Mr. Biggerstaff is an engineer on the N. C. Division.

Kenneth Wilson, son of Brakemand and Mrs. J. H. Wilson, ranked among the top ten students in the state on a recent college entrance exam. Ken is a student at Myers Park High School.

Mr. and MRs. E. B. Hardin Jr. attended the annual horse show at Camden, S. C. the weekend of April 2. Mr. Hardin is a dispatcher on the N. C. Division.

Joy Patrice Fowler, left, is the six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Fowler of Charlotte. She is a first grader at Tryon Hills Elementary School. Her father is a clerk in the Charlotte agency.

Mrs. H. M. Parris, wife of Assistant Agent H. M. Parris, entered the Presbyterian Hospital April 1 for surgery on her finger.

GENERAL OFFICE

John T. Welch Jr. of Charleston has been elected Senior Vice President of the First National Bank of South Carolina. He is the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Welch of Mt. Holly. Mr. Welch is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Davidson College and took graduate work at Duke University. In Chgarleston he is a director of the Retail Merchants Association, the Charleston Development Board, the YMCA, and the Charleston Cotton Excchange. In addition, he is a trustee of Ashley Fall, a school for girls, and vice chairman of School District 20 Board of Trustees. Mrs. Welch is the former Julia deB. Pdringle of Charleston. They have three daughters, Pamela, Ann, and Julie. Mr. Welch Sr., is a veteran employee of the accounting department.

O. K. Morgan, a former consultant in the P & N's engineering department, died in Canton, Ohio, on March 8 at the age of 90. He was living in retirement with his nephew at the time of his death. Mr. MOrgan spent a lifetime in railroad engineering and construction and was associated with the late Frank H. Cothran, a former P & N president, in the construction of the Clinchfield and P & N Railways.

Miss Lola Berryhill has resigned her position as comptometer operator in the accounting department. She was replaced by Mrs. Peggie D. Green, who is returning to P & N service after an absence of several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Lee vacationed in Florida during a week in March. Mr. Lee is an accounting department employee.
