Mickey Powell, above, is the ten-
year old son of Clerk and Mrs. Melvin
Powell
of Charlotte. He celebrated his
birthday on February 4. His father is
employed in the executive office.

Mary L. Cohen has returned to the
office following a vacation at Palm
Beach, Fla., where she was a guest of
her sister, Mrs. Barnet G. Saslow.

Mrs. W. G. Fisher, mother of N. S.
Fisher
of the accounting department,
has returned to her home after being a
patient at Charlotte Memorial Hos-
pital. Mrs. Fisher fractured her hip
in a fall on March 9.

Fred C. Wilson, father of Willie Mae
Wilson
, underwent an operation at
Marion General Hospital in Marion,
N. C., on March 5, and is reported to
be recuperating nicely.

Among the recent "flu" victims in
the executive offices were General
Manager W. L. Hogan
and Assistant
to President Franklin Way
. Both have
recovered and are back on the job.

A NOT-SO-QUICK WAY
Nature, in its unfailing wisdom, apparently
grants no special favors to church builders,
even the Presbyterian variety. Workmen found
that the law of gravity was strictly enforced in
the case of this top section of the steeple for
Charlotte's new Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The erection of the 165-foot spire took so much
manipulation and backing and filling that the
minister of the church was moved to set up a
table and serve coffee to calm the nerves of
sidewalk superintendents who gathered for the
spectacle. The "Quick-Way" hoisting machinery
in now way described the celerity of the oper-
ation--it took two gasp-filled days. It's up now,
though, and looking for all the world like the
most solid steeple in town.
