[photos of 3 new directors spanning both columns 1 & 2] C. F. JONES, N. L. TEER, JR., F. J DANIELS

12 NOW SERVING Three Directors Elected by D & S Board

At their regular monthly meeting in Duraham on December 10 directors of the Durham and Southern Railway elected three new members to serve on the Board. They were Charles F. Jones of Durham, president and treasurer of the First Cities Corporation; Nello L. Teer, Jr., of Durham, president of Nello L. Teer Company; and F. J. Daniels of New York, partner in the law firm of Perkins, Daniels & Perkins.

Mr. Jones organized the First Securities Corporation in 1939 and since that time it has grown into one of the leadin investment banking houses in North Carolina. A native of Holly Springs, Mr. Jones has long been associated with North Carolina investment banking. He is a veteran of service with the 9th Air Force in Africa during World War II.

Mr. Teer, in addition to heading the contracting firm founded by his father, is president of Central Engineering & Contracting Corporation, a past president of the Contractors Division of the American Road Builders Association, a past president of Carolina Road Builders Association, and is a national director of the Associated General Contractors of America. His firm is one of the outstanding road contracting organizations in the state.

Mr. Daniels, a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, became associated with Judge William R. Perkins, counsel for the Duke interests in New York. From this association was formed the law firm of Perkins, Daniels and Perkins. Mr. Daniels is also a director of Erwin Mills, Inc. and the George W. Helme Company.

The election of three new directors brings the membership on the board to twelve. The Board meets quarterly in Durham to review operations of the railroad and formulate policies and once each year a regular stockholders meeting is held. Although the railroad is jointly managed with the P & N, its directors and stockholders are entirely separate.

Three vacancies on the board of directors were created by the deaths of Kemp Plummer Lewis, chairman of Erwin Mills, and Erskine E. Boyce, president of the wholesale grocery firm of Thomas & Howard, in 1952 and the death of Robert Lee Flowers, long time president of Duke University, in 1951.
