The new freight traffic agent, a
member of the Presbyterian Church, is
married to the former Miss Sara Eliza-
beth Gettys of Charlotte and resides a t
512 Woodlawn Road.

MR. LAIL

NEW AGENT AT GASTONIA
J. L. Lail, a veteran of twelve years
of service with the Piedmont and Nor-
thern Railway, has been promoted to
the position of P & N agent in Gas-
tonia, it was announced recently by
W. L. Hogan, general manager of the
railroad.

Mr. Lail succeeds T. V. McIntosh Jr.,
who has been transferred to the traffic
department and appointed commercial
agent for the P & N in Charlotte.

The new agent joined the P&M in
the Gastonia agency on January 1,
1941. Except for three years of service
with the Army's Americal Division in
the Pacific area, he has been in the
service of the railroad ever since. He
was cashier of the local agency prior to
his promotion to agent.

Mr. Lail, a native Gastonian, was
graduated from the Gastonia High
School in 1936. In recent years he has
been active in work at the Trinity
Methodist Church. He is a member of
the Board of Stewards and president of
the Young Adults Class.

He is married to the former Cath-
erine Huffstickler and he, his wife, and
five-year-old daughter make their
home in South Gastonia.

MILES STAGG

40 YEARS OF SERVICE
One of the five South Carolina Di-
vision employees to be awarded 40-
year service pins last month was Miles
Stagg, porter at the River Junction op-
erating headquarters.

Miles has served the railroad well
during his 40 years of employment and
has made many friends over the whole
system. When the president's business
car is in use Miles takes over his extra
duties as porter on the Carolina.

The Greenville News recently print-
ed a picture of Miles and a write-up
concerning his service.
