out disabling a locomotive for more than
a few hours at the time.

Removing and installing the trucks is
a job generally assigned to a crew of
five men composed of Machinist Henry
Lineberger, Electricians E. L. Crenshaw
and Walter Turner, Air Brake Inspector
Ralph Clark, and Carman Toy Marsh-
banks. The job of rebuilding the truck
is accomplished primarily by Machinist
Lineberger, J. C. Langford, and DeWitt
Watson.

This month the Greenville shops com-
pleted the first cycle of reconditioning
trucks, having reconditioned all locomo-
tive trucks one time. The next job of this
sort to be done will be the second time
around for the truck involved.

Major mechanical work of this sort
can be handled with ease at the Green-
ville Shops since the facilities were re-
modeled in conjunction with converting
the South Carolina Division to diesel
operation in 1951. In fact, with few ex-
ceptions, the shop is equipped to handle
nearly all diesel work of this nature.
