State of South Carolina. Laurens County.
an inquisition indented, taken at the
late residence of J.M. Hellams in Laurens
Coounty, the sixth day of September A.D. 1917,
before R.R. Owings coroner for said county
upon view of the dead bodys of J.M
Hellams and Mrs J.M. Hellams of Laurens
County then and there being dead by
the oaths of W.H. Terry, Mrs. W.H. Terry,
Mrs Maude Terry, J.W. Butler, T.W. Knight,
and J.E. Roper being a lawful jury of
inquest, who being charged and sworn
to inquire for the state of South Carolina,
where and by what means the said
J.M. Hellams and Kate Hellams came to
their death, upon their oaths do say
that the said J.M. Hellams and Kate
Hellams came to their death by gun
shot wound in hands of party and
parties unbeknown to us.
And so the jurors aforesaid, upon their
oaths aforesaid, do say that the aforesaid,
____, in manner and form aforesaid ____
Then and there feloniously did kill
against the peace and dignity of the
state aforesaid.
In witness where of I, R.R. Owings
coroner aforesaid, and the jury aforesaid
to this inquisition have interchangeably
put our hands and seals the day
and year above mentioned..
