Wright Ridle Sworn Says
yesterday the 27th of Feb 1912
about one oclock I was Rabit [rabbit] hunting close
to where the chain gang was at work
the dogs seen a Rabit [rabbit] in a hole in the
bank of the Branch and Mr Cooper Thad
Cooper was down thair [there] he ask me to go to
the camp and get a pick to dig
the rabit [rabbit] out Mr Copper was a gard [guard] on
the chain gang I went and got the Pick
and gave it to Mr Cooper and he made
one or two licks and I heard a pistol fire
and I looked round and saw him faling [falling]
I was right at him when th pistol
fired but was not looking at him when
the pistol fired ther [there] was one present but
Mr Cooper and I it was one Oclock
the diner [dinner] hour for the chain gang

yesterday the 27 of Feb 1912 about Twelve
Oclock we stoped [stopped] for dinner some of
the party Mr Tery [?] & My sun [son] got up a
Rabit [rabbit] and Mr Shot the rabit [rabbit] and directly
tha [they] got up another one and had alittle [a little] race
after it ran into a hole in the Bank of
Branch and my son Wright Ridle came
to the camp after a pick to dig the
rabit [rabbit] out I told him all right and
Mr Tery [?] came on with the prisners [prisoners]
that was after the rabit [rabbit] and we were
about going to work and we heard a
pistol fire and heard my sun [son] holowing [hollering]
but could not understand what he
said he came running up to the top
