Testimony of William Cannon Sworn
Says last night about 7 or half past oclock
I and my Bro [Brother] Henry Cannon had come over hear [here]
and was seting [sitting] talking to the family and som
thing [something] made afus [a fuss] in the stove room and dining
room John Hugens cald [called] to know who was
thair [there] and got no answer he hailed again 4
or 5 times and still got no answer he then
said I will make you answer I will get my
gun about that time the party in the stove
room lached [latched] the doore [door] we could hear lach [latch]
click John got his gun and went to the doors
and unlached [unlatched] it and jumped back and
fired in the dark and George Martin fell for
ward [forward] in the door and never spoke as far
as I know tha [they] were frendly [friendly] he came hear [here]
to sleep George Martin works at Mr AB
Braksdals the Boy John Hugens is a peasable [peaceable]
boy we was all more or less exited [excited] I had no
reason suspeck [suspect] that it was George Martin
in the stove room I think that allmost [almost] any
body [andybody] would have ben [been] exited [excited] at anything
of that sort going on in the stove room
we thought at first it was a Dog but thought
it was some Body [somebody] when the door was
lached [latched] and we heard his steps
