46 Ordinances of the City of Greenville.
An Ordinance Creating a Board of Fire Masters.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That a Board of Fire Masters for the City of Greenville, to consist of the Chief and Assistant Chiefs of the Fire Department, the Captains or Foremen of the Fire Companies, the Chairman of the Street Committee, the Chairman of the Committe on Fire Department, and an agent or representative of a Fire Insurance Company doing business in this City, to be selected by Council, be, and the same is hereby, created and established The agent or representative of the Insurance Company shall be a member of said Board for the term of one year from the date of his election, unless sooner removed by Council for cause.
Sec. 2. It is hereby made the duty of the Board of Fire Masters, and it is expressly authorized and empowered, on complaint being made by any citizen, or on its coming to the knowledge of the Board in any other manner, that any building, erection or structure on the corporate limits of the City of Greenville is dangerous tio life or property, or likely to become so, or, if a building has insufficient or improperly constructed means of escape, or is liable to cause a fire, to inspect the same, and direct, by a notice in writing, the occupant or owner of such building or erection, to remove, alter, repair, or otherwise remedy the same, within the time specified in the notice, as to said Board shall seem meet and proper.
Sec. 3. said Board, or any member therof, or any one by them employed in the discharge of the duties prescribed in this ordinance, shall have full authority ot enter any building or lot for the purpose of making examination, and any person hindering or interfering shall, on conviction in the Mayor's Court, be fined not less than five dollars, or imprisoned not exceeding twenty days.
Sec. 4. Should the occupant or owner of any such building, erection, or structure neglect or refuse to comply (cont. on next page)

with the written direction of the said Board of Fire Masters, as therein required, such occupant or owner shall be subject to a fine, at the discretion of the Mayor, not exceeding fifty dollars, or to imprisonment not exceeding thirty days, for each and every week said directions shall remain uncompiled with, and shall further be liable for the expense incurred by the City of Greenville, should the work be done by the City, to be recovered in any Court of competent jusisdiction.
SEC. 5. The Board of Fire Masters shall have power to make such rules and appoint such committees for the convenience of their own government and for the transaction of business as to them shall seem expedient.

AN ORDINANCE TO PUNISH MALICIOUS INJURY TO PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Alderman of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That from and after the passage of this Ordinance, it shall not be lawful for any person or persons to pull or knock off any pailings or gates from the fences, or in any other manner interfere with and inure the fencing or buildings of any citizen of this city; and every person or persons convicted of any of the offences aforesaid, shall be fined not less than ten nor more than twenty dollars, or be imprisoned not less than three nor more than twenty days.

AN ORDINANCE AGAINST DELAIMING ON STREETS IN NOISILY, SCANDALOUSLY OR ABUSIVE MANNER.
SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by authority of the same, That from and after this date it shall be unlawful for any person, or persons, publicly, noisily, scandalously or abusively to declaim in any of the streets or thoroughfares of the City of Greenville.
SEC. 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall, upin conviction, be fined not less that five nor more than fifity dollars, or imprisoned not more than twenty days.

AN ORDINACE TO PUNISH DISORDERLY CONDUCT AT PLACES OF PUBLIC AMUSEMENT.
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Alderman of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That from and after the passsage of this Ordincance, any person who shall be guilty of disorderly conduct at a place of public amusement shall be liable to a fine of not less than one nor more than ten dollars, or imprisonment, at the discretion of the Mayor.

An Ordinance to Fine and Imprison Persons Found Guilty of Riotous and Disorderly Conduct.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That any person or persons, who shall hereafter be found guily of any riotous or disorderly conduct or [unknown word] with the corporate limits of the City of Greenville shall be fined not exceeding the sum of fifty dollars, or imprisoned in the County Jail of Greenville County, or the City prison, for a term not exceeding [one line "twenty" and replaced with "30"] days, at the discretion of the Mayor, or both fined and imprisoned within the above limits, at the discretion of the Mayor.
Sec. 2 That this Ordinance shall take effect immediately after its ratification.

An Ordinance to Require all Persons Putting up Barbed Wire Fences to Place a Plank on the Top of the Fence.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Greenvile, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That on and after the passage of this Ordinance, all persons who shall build or put up a barded wire dence along fence along any of the streets,

lanes or sidewalks of this City shall place on the outside of said fence, near the top, a plank not lees than four inches in width, the same to be whitewashed or painted white.
Sec. 2. Any person failing to comply with the requirements of this Ordinance shall, upon being found guilty, be subject to a fine of not more than five dollars per day for each day that said barbed wire fence is allowed to stand without said plank being place on the same.

An Ordinance to Require all Persons Putting up Gates Along the Streets and Sidewalks of the City to Hang them so that they will Open on the Inside.
Section 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Greenville, in Council assembled, and by the authority of the same, That on and after the passage of this Ordinance, all persons erecting or putting up any gate or gates shall so hang them as that the said gate or gates will open on the inside of the yard or lot, and not open on the streets or sidewalks.
Sec. 2. That any person failing or refusing to comply with the requirements of this Ordinance shall be subject to a fine for each day said person shall so fail or refuse, of not more than five dollars, and in the discretion of Mayor.
