OFFICE OF PROTECTOR OF ABORIGINALS 8/24 BOLLON. 15th MARCH, 1924.

SIR/, I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your MEMORANDUM dated 6th March, 1924, reminding me that I had not returned to the Home Department, the list of aboriginal Names of places and their respective meanings, sent me on 5th December, 1923. In reply I wish to state that I have not overlooked the matter, but am awaiting opportunity of interviewing 2 persons within this District who may and no doubt will be able to give me the only information worth reporting, for so far I have been unable to obtain any definite information on the matter, and no doubt it is not intended that any expence should be incurred in ---- obtaining such, I have refrained from so doing, further there has been an excessive amount of work to attend to at this Station since receipt of such list, that would justify same standing over for a time. I will endeavor to obtain some particulars at an early date, and forward to the requestee. I have the honour to beSIR, Yours obediently, A Adams Protector for BOLLON. 19/24 OFFICE OF PROTECTOR OF ABORIGINALS BOLLON, 13th MAY, 1924

CHIEF PROTECTOR OF ABORIGINALS 2840 20. MAY 1924

Relataive to- A letter dated 5th December, from this Home-- Secretarys Office, calling for Aboriginal Meaning to ----- places bearing Aboriginal Names within my District, and a Memorandum from my Chiefs Office dated 28th March, 1924. P A bollon

SIR/

I have the honour to advise re above that I have been unable to obtain any information that would prove useful in connection with the matter for which it was applied for due to the fact that there are few -Old Aboriginals within this District, and those that are here are too far distant frm Bollon, to make it convenient to interview them without incuring expence, as they live from 58 to 72 Miles out, and very seldom any visit this Township. I have interviewed some younger Boys, who could not give any useful information and could not suggest from whom I might obtain such. There is 2 or 3 old inhabitants of this Disctict (Blacks) whom I hoped to meet before now, but did not, and as they are the only ones I expected any information from, I wish to express my regrets at my inability to render the desired information.

I have the honour to be, SIR. Yours Obediently. A Adams PROTECTOR

In replying please refer to Record No.

Home Secretary's Office Brisbane 5th September, 1923.

Sir,

I have the honour to inform you that it is proposed to prepare an index of the names of Queensland places and, if possible, to ascertain the origin of the names of each place.

There is a difficulty regarding places having aboriginal names, and it is desired that you get in touch with as many as possible of the older natives in your District, with a view of obtaining a list of the places in your District having aboriginal names, together with the meaning of the aboriginal words.

I shall be glad if you will submit information in the following form, and post it to me at your convenience.

Yours obediently,

? Under Secretary.

The Protector of Aboriginals. BOLLON
