word in that form gives practically the sound
of the Kabi word for boormeran,and from a not far
distant point from the mountain it appears to be
somewhat the shape of a boomerang.

Probably the name should be Birra-buarrun,
boomerang in teh sky.

[Dugandan]. [John Allen] gives the meaning as "going up" but I
think that no other has accepted it. The name has
caused much discussion. It is probably Dugai-dan ,
meaning white man's place. Dugai is a black-
fellow's ghost. But when the blacks first saw white
men they called them by this name and the practice
continued form sometime. It was probably given by
the black when,in 1843,[Robert Coulson] built a house
on the hill of that name and what was later Known
as [Dugandan Cattle Station].

[Dakkabin]. Place of grass-trees. From dakka, grass-tree,
and bin, a variant of ba,meaning place of.

[Neurum]. Nurum, wart or pockmark. [Neurum Creek] is believed
to be so named because of an outbreak of small-pox
among the natives many years ago before the advent
of white man.

[Jimboomba]. A Story is extant to the effect that an eruptive
explosion once took place on the [Darlington Range]
the sound of which penetrated only to the place in
question., hence the meaning "Sound end".

The story is improbable._In the local language
the word jim or dhim means end which used as an
affix. The word for sound or noise is gurgun.
The name should probably be Jabomba or Dhaboomba,
meaning place of grubs. Jaboom, an edible grub.

[Winnam]. [Petrie] gave the meaning of this name as pandanus
tree. Winnam is a kabi name for this tree.

The [Brisbane River] name for the tree is tiungul.

According to a good authority a man named
[Wenham] used to reside at this place and it is
claimed that the place was [?] known by the name of
Wenham's.

[Tingalpa]. [Petrie] gave this the meaning of place of fat',
tingal meaning fat. It is likely however that
the name should be Tiungul-pa, place of pandanus
(breadfruit) trees.

[Nambour] Nambur, is the name of the white flowered ti-tree
and also its bark.

[Pialba]. Should be Baiya-ba, place of fighting. There is a
tradition that a great battle occurred a long
time ago in the vicinity of this place.

Authority for this story is a local aboriginal.

[Yandina]. Yan dinna-go on foot. Probably because at this
place is the nearest place from the sea at which
the river maroochy could be forded. This Is
analagous to the meaning given by [Petrie], i.e.
small (narrow) place of water.

[Beerwah]. Birra-wa, Sky, rising up. or rising up to the sky.
[Beerwah] is the highest of the [Glass House mountain] Group.

[Mudgeraba]. From mudtheri, wet,sticky and dirty. Name given
by reason of the soil in the vicinity being,in
wet weather so described. [Allen]'s definition,
child's excrement, was deduced from the fact that
a child in a filthy condition was described as being
mudtheri. Ba,of course, means place of.

[Mundulin]. Abbreviated from the local word mundheralgun,
meaning death adder.
