Sir.-

Recently a new stopping place has been provided between [Dinmore] and [Bundamba] and was named "St. Helens", but the UnderSecretary of the Lands Department takes exception to this and points out there are three cattle stations of this name in Queensland, also places in Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand, and it is suggested as an alternative that an aboriginal name be given this place, and I shall be glad if you could assist me in the matter as apparently the Station Masters, [Dinmore] and [Bundamba], cannot suggest a suitable aboriginal name.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours faithfullyx, [I? G. Brown] Traffic manager, [CMN?]

Sir,

In June last you inquired as to the meaning of the aboriginal word " currumbin " .

I learn this now means " High up " because of there being extremely tall trees and hills in the vicinity of the water course now known as [Currumbin Creek].

I regret that the papers containing this information were inadvertently filed away without your having been informed.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Obedient Servant,

For theChief Protector of Aboriginals.

Sir,

With reference to your letter of the 8th instant inquiring as to the meaning of the name 'Currumbin" ,I have the honour to report that from inquiries made it appears that the interpretation of the name in English is "High up" .The aboriginals from which this information has been procured explain that the name originated from the fact of there being extremely tall trees and high hills in the vicinity of the watercourse now known as [Currumbin Creek].

I have the honour to be

Sir

Your obedient servant

[M'Massirson?] Pro I n s p e c t o r.
