Sir,
With reference to your letter of 6th instant,
No. 13.2989, I have to advise that on inquiry at aboriginal
stations, I am unable to learn the meaning of the name Mur-
rang-arie: the nearest approach to it is Mer-rong-arra,which
is the name of a vine growing,in the scrubs, which has an
edible grape. There is also a somewhat similar word,Mu-
dong-garra, meaning a water snake.
Trusting this information will serve your
purpose, I am,
Yours obediently
Deputy-Chief Protector of Aboriginals
The Chief Engineer,
Railway Department,
B R I S B A N E.
