had important announcements to make. First, $945,000.00
of the Million Endowment had been received and was yielding
revenue. The remainder would be forthcoming. The registration
was large, and additional instructors would be required in
English Literature, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. And
for the session just begun the fees would be some $40,000.00
in advance of the previous year. As yet no head for the
English Department in succession to Prof. Cappon, had
been found, but Professor McNeill was suggested and recommended
as Acting Head for the session. Dr AC Neish
was recommended as head of the Department of Chemistry
following Dr Goodwin; Prof (Dr) Spencer Melvin for the
Chair of Physiology, in succession to Dr Knight; Mr JB
Black to Modern History Chair, and Mr Hughes to the Research
Chair. Some assistantships were also filled. All these were
men of high academic rank, and some of them of considerable
experience as teachers. The recommendations
were approved by the Board, and the appointments made.

The two vacant Deanships also were filled; Professor
Skelton given that in the Faculty of Arts, and Professor
Clark that in the Faculty of Science, for five years.

As the Finance and Estates Committee passes an enormous
amount of business through its hands, probably at different
stages through this story, it should be mentioned who
