Cappon, English Language and Literature, and Dean of the
Faculty of Arts; Professor AP Knight, Animal Biology and
Histology, Chairman of the Biological Board of Canada;
Professor James Third, of the Medical Faculty and Professor
of Medicine; Mr George Y Chown (in ill health) for many years
Secretary-Treasurer and Registrar. These were all men of
the first rank in their several labors when their resignations
had to be accepted, the Finance and Estates Committee was
requested to suggest a way by which the whole University
could testify to the high and universal esteem in which
these gentlemen were held. The Committee's suggestion
was a complimentqry dinner at the Frontenac Club, which
was adopted and carried out with unqualified success.
It was a great evening. The toasts were received with enthusiasm.
Nothing was omitted to show how greatly appreciated
were the services rendered by the said brethren
to the University and educational development of the
country. The retiring veterans in replying to the toasts,
thanked the great, company for the honor done them by
giving that banquet, and for the kindly, grateful words
spoken of their work and fellowship. They would retain
their warm interest in the University, and now, from
the outside, and as opportunity offered, would not be
remiss in advancing the cause with which they had
been so long, and so pleasantly identified.
