entrance into College, it has always been
required that such Students should study
along with divinity all such of the previous
branches as in the judgement of the Senatus
might be necessary.

6. That while it is provided by the resolution
of the Trusteees of date 22 May
1840, that there shall be always ten free
scholarships as the foundation of Queen's
College preparing young men having a view to
the Ministry, and to employment as
teachers of youth, and although the Professors
of Queen's College have never accepted
fees from such students as had such
objects decidely in view, without experience
as to the restriction of their number to ten
as provided by the Trustees, the Senate are
nevertheless of opinion, that they act on the
spirit of the aforesaid resolution of the
Board only if they subject applicants
for free admission to examination previous
to entrance, this being in the opinion of
the Senatus the only means of preventing
an abuse of the Liberality of the College.
