Queen's College 1st May 1855
The Senatus met on the call of the Vice Principal,
and was constituted. Present, Revd. Messrs. George, Williamson,
Weir, and Malcolm Smith.

Professor George read a Letter from Revd. Dr.
Machar, in consequence of which he had called this
meeeting, stating, that it being publicly known, that his
Son had been charged with having been a party in the
carrying off of the Revd. Professor Smith's gates, on the
Evening of Monday, the 22nd inst., Bbetween Eleven, and
Twelve O'Clock, and, as he might not have it in his
power hereafter to show his Son's innocence of the
charge, unless the Senatus Academicus should afford
him an opportunity of doing so now, he requested
him to lay the matter before the Senatus Academicus
at their earliest convenience.

John Machar being present declared, that
Professor Smith said, that he had occasion to suspect
him of having been concerned in the carrying off of
