and Captain General and Governor in Chief, in and over the Provinces of Canada,
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Island of Prince Edward, and Vice Admiral
of the same, &c. &c. &c.

To any Protestant Minister of the Gospel

WHEREAS, there is a mutual Purpose of Marriage between
James Lang of
Port Hope i th Newcastle District
bachelor, and Jane Whiteford of Montreal
Spinster

for which they have desired my License and have given bond, upon condition that there is no lawful Let or
Impediment, Pre-contract, Affinity or Consanguinity, to hinder their being joined in the Holy Bands of
Matrimony, these are therefore to authorize and empower you to join the said

James Lang & Jane Whiteford

In the Holy Bands of Matrimony, and them to pronounce Man and Wife.

GIVEN under my Hand and the Prerogative Seal, at the City of Montreal, the 28th
day of Augt in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and forty-eight
