May I add to the chorus of congratulations which you are receiving on your appointment to the Governor Generalship of Canada? There could be no wiser selection [e/n?] As I said in my cricket book, you have two faults & two faults only. You know little of cricket & no one can read your handwriting!!

Seriously all who know you are delighted. Your fine brain, charm of manner, and your

ability as a "good mixer" will make you the best of all Pro Consuls.

I deem it a great privilege to have once had the honour of serving under you & to have the honour of your friendship. My warmest congratulations to Mrs. Buchan.

It is my misfortune in life that I see nothing of you in these days, but that in no way lessens my affection & esteem for you.
