Government House. Ottawa.

8th June, 1936.

Dearest Caroline,

This will be the last letter I shall be able to write to you before you join us. Walter arrived on Saturday. We all go off to Murray Bay on Thursday, while my Comptroller moves the household to Quebec. We shall arrive there about the 15th, and expect you about the 25th. My family leave that day or the following day.

It is pretty warm already, and we are scourged by mosquitoes. I was in the woods last week and got bitten again, while John's arms are horny with bites. Susie suffers worst of all, though she does not go out into the woods. At Murray Bay and Quebec we shall be free of the plague, I hope, and the whole thing comes to an end about the beginning of July. I do not think you will be called upon to suffer.

The President has practically arranged now to come to us at Quebec on the 29th July, so you will see him. I have never come across anyone so determined on a visit!

My mother and sister have been amazingly well, in spite of having been terribly fêted and entertained here. On Friday we had the American Under-Secretary of State to dine - my old friend Bill Phillips.

This letter should reach you about your birthday.

My very warmest love.

Yours affectionately,

John
