Blanchie was Blanche Firebrace, nee Stuart-Wortley. She was one of Susan Buchan's aunts, a childless widow who lived in Buckingham Gate and with whom JB sometimes stayed when he was in London. She had a protracted illness (probably cancer), referred to in this letter, which eventually killed her.
