well received. Noel [ST: Skelton MP] has christened it
'The Boys' Budget', because it was
largely the work of Bob Boothby and
Harold Macmillan!

We had a pleasant dinner last
night, but Tin is rather seedy &
desperately depressed. No word of a
let, & the Joneses roosting under
her roof-tree!

Bless you, my own darling. Love to
every Blessing

The letter is written from Blanche Firebrace's address (née Stuart-Wortley, Susan Buchan's aunt). Did she have a family nickname?

JB stayed with Blanche Firebrace quite often as she lived nearer to the Houses of Parliament than Tin (the family nickname for Caroline Grosvenor, Susie's mother), who lived in Upper Grosvenor Street. She sometimes let out the house (which she rented from the Duke of Westminster) when she went travelling.

Macmillan and Boothby were, at that time, very youthful M.P.s.

The Joneses were the Peyton-Joneses. Caroline's younger daughter, Marnie, was married to Jeremy Peyton-Jones. The relationship between mother and daughter was not as straightforward as between Caroline and Susie.
