I was very glad to get your kind letter this morning. What a delightful letter that was from little Alec Davidson. I am so glad he went to Alastair's grave. He is a nice kind laddie.
Susie stayed up here last

night. I had the American to dinner & Bob Cecil, & we had a very interesting talk. Susie goes back this morning. It is lovely weather now - real autumn. Bob Cecil says I must take a fortnight's holiday, but I won't get more than 3 or 4 days; for I am very busy, but very well.

Russia seems to be marching steadily frm bad to worse. There is no doubt but that America & ourselves must finish the war.
Robbie's harmonium has arrived & is ensconced in the sewing-room. I doubt it won't be much used, for we are not great harmoniumists.
I hope to get down to Kent this week on the Friday evening.
