Kingston April 5 1880

A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the
City of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Anglin, Dupuis, Fee, Gaskin, CF
Gildersleeve, JP Gildersleeve, Irving, Law,
Maloney, McGuire, McIntyre, McMahon, McRossie,
Pense, Snook, Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings

A Communication from Charles W Beckwith Esquire
City Clerk, Frederickton was read on the subject of
Dominion officials being liable to assessment

On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald McRossie
Ordered, That the Council endorse the views set
forth in the petition of the City of Frederickton and
that His Worship The Mayor be empowered to sign a
similar petition to be forwarded at the earliest possible
moment to the Dominion Government

A communication from Robert Shaw Esquire Barrister
was read on behalf of Certain Custom House officials
requesting repayment of taxes improperly levied on them
for Income

On motion of Ald Gildersleeve seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, That the communication of Robert Shaw
be referred to the City Solicitor to report

Circulars on the subject of a Kingston Directory
were read. There was no action taken thereon

A communication from Messrs Kirkpatrick and
Rogers was read respecting back taxes &c

On motion of Ald Gildersleeve seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, That the communication of Messrs Kirkpatrick
and Rogers be referred to the City Solicitor to report

A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor was
read In Re Mingaye vs Kingston

A communication from John Duff Esquire was read
in reference to back taxes

On motion of Ald Anglin seconded by Ald Fee
Ordered, That the communication of John Duff be
referred to the Committee on back taxes to report

A communication from SS Phippen Secretary Board of
Public School Trustees was read asking for a grant of $4000
to be expended on increased school accommodation

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Gildersleeve
Ordered, That the communication of SS Phippen
Secretary of School Board in reference to granting $4000.00
for school purposes be referred to the Finance Committee
to report
