A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston
was held this day. Present

His Worship The Mayor
Aldermen Allen, Anglin, Clements, Dupuis, Gaskin, Gildersleeve CF,
Gildersleeve JP, Harty, Irving, Law, Maloney, McGuire,
McIntyre, McMahon, Snook, Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting

A Communication from Principal Grant was read relative to
the removal of the Observatory from the Park

On motion of Ald Clements seconded by Ald McGuire
Ordered, That the Communication of Principal Grant be referred
to the Committee on the Observatory to report at the next meeting of
the Council

Communications from A Gunn relative to the petition of the
Corporation of Kingston re the taxation of Dominion Officials were
read

There was no action taken thereon

A Communication from Allen Chadwick was read applying for
the Office of City Commissioner

Ald McRossie and Ald Fee here entered

Moved by Ald Gildersleeve seconded by Ald Harty
That the Council do now go into Committee of the Whole
on the second reading of the By Law respecting the office of City
Commissioner and that any rules of the Council be suspended for
such purposes

The Mayor ruled the resolution out of order

A communication from James Matts was read complaining of the
condition of the new drain on Division street.

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald CF Gildersleeve

Ordered, That the communicaition of James Matts be referred to
the Committee on Streets to report

A communication from Britton and Whiting was read In re
John Gilchrist's back taxes

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald McGuire
Ordered that the communication of Britton and Whiting be
referred to the Committee on Back Taxes to report

A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor was read
regarding the salaries of Custom House Officials

On motion of Ald GIldersleeve seconded by Ald Irving
Ordered That the communication of James Agnew be referred
to the Finance Committee with power to act in respect of taxes
paid by officers of the Dominion Government under protest

A communication from James Agnew City Solicitor was read in
re back taxes of Mr George A Kirkpatrick

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald McGuire
Ordered That the communication of the City Solicitor just read
be
