collected to June the seventh - Referred to the Committee on Finance &c.

From W. M Drennan Secy Celebration Committee giving statement
of Receipts and expenditure of the Committee of the 24th May Celebration showing a
deficit of $85.54 cents and asking the Council to place the amount.

Mr Drennan being present was allowed to address the Council.

Ald Richardson moves seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered that the sum of $85.00 be granted to the 24th of May Celebration
Committee and that the Finance Committee be authorized to provide funds for same
and that the thanks of this Council be tendered W.M.Drennan for his exertion in regard
to celebration.

From W.H. Cruse Secy Sons of England inviting the Council to join them
in a parade and church service on Sunday June 20th inst. to be held at St Georges Cathedral
at 3:30 O'Clock P.M.

Ald Ryan moves seconded by Ald Elliott
That the invitation of the Sons of England be accepted.

From H.E. Barney Rec Secy of Local Union of the Christian endeavour
enclosing a copy of resolution passed at last meetingof the Union re Band Concerts
in City Park - Referred to Committee on Parks.

From C.D.McFarland Secy Bicycle Club asking the City Council
on behalf of the Club to amend the By Law respecting the Civic Holiday so as to make
the first Monday of August the Civic Holiday instead of the second Monday as provided
in the By Law.

It was resolved that Ald McKelvey, Ryan and Walkem be a Committee
to draft and engross a resolution of Congratulations to her Majesty Queen Victoria on
her having reached the 60 [ST:th] year of her reign.

Members of the Jubilee Committee being present were allowed to
address the Council upon the application of the committee for a grant of $500.

On motion of Ald Donnelly seconded by Ald Walkem
Ordered that the sum of $500 be granted the Celebration Committee
for a proper celebration of Queens Jubilee Day and the Finance Committee be
requested to furnish the funds carried unanimously.

Petitions were presented and referred as follows:

From C.A. Robinson by Ald Carson complaining about having to
pay for entering an old drain on Queen Street and asking to be relieved of the
frontage charge of same - Referred to the Board of Works.

From Daniel Eaves Sr by Ald Wright asking compensation for
damages done to his carriage - Referred to the Board of Works.

From L.L. Henderson and 7 others asking for the construction of a
sewer on Wellington Street between Gore and Union - Referred to Board of Works.

From N. McCammon et al asking for the construction of an Artificial
stone side Walk as a Local Improvement on Montreal Street between Brock and
Princess Sts - Referred to Board of Works.

From S.H. Williams by Ald Livingston asking that the stand pipe
on the corner of Princess and University Avenue be removed as it is a great
inconvenience as well as a Nuisance.

Ald Livingston moves seconded by Ald Carson
That the prayer of the Petition of G.H. Williams be granted.

From Wood Bros and 65 others by Ald Johns petitioning for the opening
up of Sydenham St from Johnston [Johnson?] to Princess St - Referred to the Board of Works.
