From The Local Board of Health complaining of Nuisance at the foot of Princess
and West Streets - Referred to the Board of Works.

From James Richardson & Son accepting the offer of the City of Kingston Re the erection
and operation of a public grain Elevator in this city &c - Referred to the Elevator Committee.

From W.M. Drennan Hon [Honorable] Secretary Celebration Committe requesting the use of
the Ontario Hall also the Island Market for the sleeping accomodation &c for one of the visiting
Battalions on May 22nd-23rd and 24th free of charge.

Referred to Committee on City property and Markets with power to act.

From James Wickens claiming damages done to clothing caused by the
newly painted benches in the Park - Referred to the Committee on Parks & City Solicitor.

Petitions were presented and read as follows: -

From the Poor Relief Association by Ald Wright asking the Council to make some
provisions to mitigate the suffering which exists every winter in the City through scarcity of
Work for laboring men and also to take into consideration the adoption in Kingston of what is
known as the "Garden Plot" scheme. Mr R. Meek and Dr Ryckman addressed the Council
on behalf of the petition.

On motion of Ald Wright seconded by Ald Stewart
Ordered that the petition of the City Poor Relief association be referred to the Committee
on Finance to confer with a committee from said association and report to this Council

On motion of Ald Walkem seconded by Ald W Robinson
Ordered that this Council at their meeting this evening desire to convey to Mr Bolger
our City Engineer their sincere Sympathy with him in his late affliction and the Clerk is hereby
directed to communicate the substance of this resolution to him.

From John S. Smith and 7 others by Ald Kent asking for an asphalt sidewalk
to be constructed on Johnson Street on the North side between Clergy and Sydenham Streets as
a local improvement - Referred to the Board of Works and City Commissioner.

From George Young and 16 others by Ald Donelly asking that University Avenue
between Earl and Union Streets be watered - Referred to the Board of Works.

From H.A.Wilton and 6 others asking to have the watering continued on
Bagot Street between Ordnance and Bay Streets - Referred to the Board of Works.

The Secretary of the Queen's Birthday Celebration Committee was permitted
to address the Council as to the Grant from the Council towards the celebration.

On motion of Ald Allen seconded by Ald Ryan
Ordered that $300.00 the amount passed in the Budget report for celebrations
Committee upon the condition that the citzens general Celebration Committee controls
the entire celebration including the afternoon events at the Fair grounds on May 24th
and upon the condition that the surplus of funds if any remaining in the
Treasury of the general Committee after the celebration be handed back to the City
to form part of the fund for celebrating the 22nd of June or such other day upon
which it may be decided to celebrate Her Majestys Jubilee.

Ald Ryan from the committee on Finance and accounts brought
up Reports (numbers 156, 157 Book H.) which were read and adopted.

Yeas: The Mayor, Aldn Allen, Elliott, Johns, Kent, Livingston,
McKelvey, Richardson, C. Robinson, Ryan, Taylor, Walkem, Wright - 13.

Nays: Aldn Bell, Carson, Donnelly, Minnes, Mooers, W. Robinson,
Stewart, Tait - 8.

The Chairman from the Board of Works brought up Report (number
158 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire Water and Light brought up
Report (number 159 Book H.) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from Special Committee on Elevator brought up
Report
