A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this
day. Present:
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Bell, Carson, Donnelly, Johns, Livingston, Minnes,
Mooers, McKelvey, Richardson, C Robinson, W Robinson, Stewart,
Tait, Taylor, Toye, Walkem, Wright

The Clerk read the minutes of the last two meetings
Communications summarized by Clerk were read and referred as follows:

From Jno. Blevins City Clerk Toronto Re: tax exemptions. Referred to the
Special Committee on Municipal Law.

From B.E. Sparham Town Clerk Smith's Falls acknowledging Petition, Fyled.

From Arthur L. Wilson, B.A. Author of Municipal Works &c calling attention to the
Municipal Act consolidated, condensed and classified. Referred to the Special Committee
on Municipal Law.

From H.V. Lyon, B.A. Barrister on behalf of Messrs James Richardson & Sons
calling attention to the unsanitary condition of the entrance of Princess Street drain into the
slip at the foot of Princess Street in front of their office and stating that unless the same
is remedied at once that he will take proceedings to have the nuisance abated.
Referred to the Board of Works.

From F.C. Ireland City Treasurer giving statement of fees No 1 Market
received to date. Referred to the Committee on Finance &c

From W. Robins Secretary of the Canadian Fire Underwriters Association stating
that his attention has been called to the fact that the Municpal By-law governing the
storage of gunpowder permits the storage of 75 lbs which is in access of the amount allowed
by the rules of the association and requesting that steps be taken to have the By Law amended.
Referred to the Fire, Water & Light Committee and City Solicitor.

From George Thompson Collector of Taxes giving statement of Taxes received
to date. Referred to the Committee on Finance &c

From C. Fraser and others taxes. Referred to the court of Revision.

From J.P. Gildersleeve calling attention to the unsanitary condition of the
mouth of the Gore Street drain. Referred to the Board of Works.

From J.E. Johnston applying for the position of Collector for Street watering
taxes. Referred to the Committee on Finance &c

Petitions were presented and referred as follows:
From Jas. A. Hendry and 13 others by Ald Stewart calling the attention of
the Council to the dangerous and extremely disagreeable sewer outlet at the foot of West
Street and asking the Council to extend the sewer upon the said street to deep water
beyond the front of the wharves on each side of the extension of the street. Referred to the
Board of Works.

From William McCartney and 17 others by Ald Donnelly asking that the
Fire Alarm Box now at the corner of University Avenue and Earl Streets be allowed
to remain in its present position. Referred to the Committee on Fire Water
and Light.

From R Nesbitt and 5 others by Ald Livingston asking that the
Street watering be discontinued on University Avenue between Johnson and
Brock Streets. Referred to the Board of Works.

From Samuel Harness by Ald Carson asking to have the assessemnt
reduced
