Report from Col Storekeeper re Revolver Cartridges

Sir,

In compliance with your instructions, I have
now the honor to report as follows respecting the
Revolver Cartridges.

I have now in Stock 3,600 rounds, and
they all appear to be in good order and condition
as per sample Box herewith.

The Cartridges were all indented for from
England through the Agent General, at a cost of
£2: 5/- per thousand.

The two Boxes you specially allude to, were
the last of a shipment of two thousand rounds
received ex "Bolivia" from the Agent General, and were
the only ones in Stock here at the time of issue, the
others being at the Powder Magazine. At the time these
Cartridges were landed, I was informed that the boxes
were all loose, the Case having got broken. I at once
went on board the Ship and thoroughly examined them,
being afraid that they were damaged. I opened several
boxes and fired off Cartridges from them and found
them all right. There were three boxes short of the
number, the value of which I received payment for
from the ship.

I will at once communicate with the
Commissioner of Police with a view of finding out the
Condition of all Revolver Cartridges in the various Northern
Police Stations and replace any that are unserviceable.

I may state that no complaint has been made
to me respecting these Cartridges or I should have at
once reported the matter.

The Colonial Treasurer
