Bowen 11th July 1879—
Sir
Adverting to your letter of 3rd ulto - received last mail communicating that owing to reductions in the Police Estimates, my salary was curtailed to that of a second class Inspector—
I do myself the honor - whilst desiring to express my sense of the courtesty and consideration thereby evinced by the Government towards myself to request in consequence of impaired state of health, that I be instead permitted to retire, on the half pay pension of a first class Inspector towards which I have contributed in super annuation deductions
In support of my application, I would urge respectfully, my nearly completed seventeen years service in the Police, during which I have never been suspended or even reprimanded - my being till recently stationed in outlying districts, thereby occasioning bodily infirmness - and the zeal and efficiency displayed in the discharge of my duties generally, in attestation of which I believe that I can confidently venture to refer to yourself.
Trusting that the subject may meet with your favorable recommendation to the Honble the Colonial Sectry
I have the honor to be Sir, your most obt servant
M Armstrong Inspector
Comr of Police Brisbane
